Sweet Mother

It's not exactly a secret what jingoistic, unpatriotic cretins the Republican Congress is, be it the streamlining of the Bush Grindhouse lawbreaking, the crocodile tears of John Boehner, and not to mention the parade of sex scandals (where, there, they are fair and balanced, caught with men, woman and young boys).

But their obstructionism today reached new heights;

Republicans vote down Mother’s Day. No, really!

Have they no shame? Using mother’s all across America as a political tactic is pretty sad. Initially this resolution had passed unanimously, but maybe Rep. Tiahart just doesn’t like his mom. Dana Milbank says poor Boehner has been under a lot of stress lately. Yes he has, but to actually vote down Mother’s day?

You got it ... They voted against a resolution - one of those fluff things, with no practical consequences - to honor "Celebrating the role of mothers in the United States and supporting the goals and ideals of Mother's Day,"

Steve Benen, over on The Carpetbagger Report ("House Republicans take a firm stand — against Mother’s Day") has the right idea on this stunt;
As for the GOP’s opposition to moms, I wouldn’t be surprised if this little stunt comes up during the fall campaigns. Dems might not necessarily base an entire ad on a resolution vote, but I could imagine a Dem candidate saying, “Rep. Smith spends most of his time in Washington saying, ‘No.” No to quality healthcare, no to bringing the troops home, Smith even voted against Mother’s Day. Isn’t time we said no to Rep. Smith?”

Can't wait to see how Stumblin' Bumblin' John McCain mashes this one up.

And, of course, The Garlic has a suggestion for the Congressional Democrats.

Come Monday morning, they should have set up in the House, giant speakers, a sound system to rival the largest stadiums in the land, and through some type of procedure, to make the Republicans sit through it, blast Prince Nico Mbarga's classic tune, "Sweet Mother"

Editor's Note ... The Pearl Is In The River ...

Good Morning Garlic Fans

We hope you are all well, on this very sunny, fine day here in the Northeast.

Well, our latest episode of the Elderly Aunt is wrapping up, as she returned home from the hospital yesterday, all repaired, healthy and more than happy to be in her surroundings.

Now, back to getting in the routines.

I wish I could say my low posting over the past week was due to a relaxing, restful, totally-chilled out vacation.

It was anything but that, with long days, doctor consultants, family updates and light sleep.

So, I hope to get something up today, as I did endeavor to stay plugged in to what was/is going on (and absolutely not looking forward to the unending loop that started last evening, of when Hillary bows out, with every blowhard pundit offering every possible scenario, regardless of how plausible it may be).

It may take a day, or two, to get back in-stride, so hang in there.

As always, many, many thanks for visiting and reading The Garlic

Peace
JTD

Al Giordano: Let Operation Anti-Chaos begin!

Probably, the one true voice writing about this years' presidential election, Al Giordano has another gem today.

Operation Anti-Chaos: The Narrative on "White Voters" Is Fiction

Al, for one, is not getting fooled by the Clinton Machine's sniper-dodging, 3AM, and Day-One-Ready, Fool's Gold candidate.

They've swallowed the Clinton racially-obsessed spin, hook, line and sinker. Some, because they are gullible, haven't an original idea in their little pea brains, and follow the pack of what everybody else is talking about. Others, because they like to toss around knowing falsehoods. Nary a superdelegate can go on Fox News without being berated by an anchorperson screeching (this is pretty close to an exact quote): "But your duty as a superdelegate is to select the most electable and that's Hillary Clinton!" That these anchorpersons are Republican partisans openly cheering for Senator Clinton is our first clue of the game afoot.

What, where does this man get, if he's not drinking Hillary's, this clear, untainted, Kool-Aid from?
So imagine my pleasant surprise this morning to see a New York Times columnist, Charles Blow, who did what none of these chattering lunkheads have done. He looked at the hard data of how voters, white and black, view the two Democratic candidates - favorably or negatively? - and how those views have progressed over time.

Wait. The numbers show that the cynical effort to turn the 2008 campaign into a race riot has hurt the popularity of one candidate among an important demographic, and it's not Barack Obama:

Those facts won't stop many media (and Internet) talking heads from continuing - whether out of gullibility or intentional dishonesty - to prop up the "white voters" narrative, but it ought to inoculate you, kind reader, from believing it.

Read all of Operation Anti-Chaos: The Narrative on "White Voters" Is Fiction and get hip to Al Giordano
